After taking their picture, he lures them to the townhouse where they repeatedly injure themselves in the traps. Kevin slips away, calls the police from a pay phone to alert them to the pair's presence, and flees toward Central Park. Kevin provides photographic and tape-recorded evidence against them, and Mr. Duncan recovers the donation money and finds a note from Kevin explaining why he broke the window. The family arrives in New York, and Kate, remembering Kevin's fondness for Christmas trees, finds him making a wish at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Earlier, upon landing in Miami, the McCallister family discover that Kevin is missing and file a police report.
New York’s iconic Plaza Hotel is the place where in the film Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, stays and meets Trump.

Though he's Macaulay's brother in real life, he played Kevin's cousin, Fuller, in the films. It was created specifically as a prop for the film by Tiger Electronics, but according to Vanity Fair, the company was allowed to sell a real version once it came out. “The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. “Fingers crossed they don’t cut your dad’s part in ‘Ghosts Can’t Do It,'” Hamill gleefully tweeted Thursday. Originally, they had plans to make “Home Alone 2” and “Home Alone 3” at the same time. When the idea of a third movie was first bandied about, the thought was to have a teenage Kevin played by Culkin.
Culkin seems to approve of removing a contentious celebrity cameo from the movie. The Plaza is one of the main settings of the film as Kevin decides to stay there after accidentally going to New York by himself. Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr, shared a news story on Twitter Thursday morning that called the edit “pathetic,” and implied it was politically motivated. From the indies sure to be jockeying for Oscars, to a new Halloween and Pinocchio, here are the movies we're most excited about this fall. We take you far past “Monster Mash” with a collection of October-ready tunes by legendary English outfits, classic rockers, iconic composers, and even swing and ska bands. In his new memoir, the actor shares some of the half-baked pitches he heard from people who wanted to reboot The Karate Kid — years before Cobra Kai came along.

As such, for the first they had spent a ton of money on fake snow they could use in New York. Then, before they filmed using any of it, a blizzard hit the city. That meant plenty of real snow, and basically no need for fake snow. A lot of the film is shot in New York, naturally, but Hughes also loved to shoot movies in Winnetka, a suburb of Chicago. It’s where the McCallister house was, but it’s also the city where Hughes shot films like “Ferris Bueller,” “Sixteen Candles, “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,” and more. Kevin rigs the townhouse with booby traps, catches Harry and Marv in the process of robbing the store, and breaks its front window to set off the burglar alarm.
Still, many Twitter users weren’t letting the president off easy after his scene was cut. Star Wars actor Mark Hamill responded to Trump Jr’s criticism of the edit by noting that in 1990, Trump won a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor for his role in the critically panned film Ghosts Can’t Do It. On Christmas Eve, Kevin visits a toy store whose kindly owner, Mr. Duncan, plans to donate the day's sale proceeds to a children's hospital. After Kevin makes a donation, Mr. Duncan gives him a pair of ceramic turtledoves in thanks, instructing him to give one to another person as a gesture of eternal friendship.

They call her “Annie” and invite her to come down to the station for hot chocolate. Eventually, that scene was cut, and thus the real name of the Pigeon Lady remained unknown. When you make a Christmas movie, you tend to want some snow. The whole “winter wonderland” look is key to Christmas films.
The pool scene was shot in the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. When Kevin goes to Duncan's for the first time, he walks by a man lifting his daughter to look at a toy display. Duncan's Toy Chest isn't real, but it was likely inspired by a famous NYC store. The Plaza capitalized on the hotel being featured in the movie by creating a special package for fans, which is still available 30 years later. When Insider's Jason Guerrasio interviewed director Chris Columbus in 2020, he said Trump bullied his way into the cameo in the first place.
Macaulay Culkin Supports Calls to Edit Donald Trump Out of Home Alone '2:' 'Lost in New York'
In February 1991, the Los Angeles Times reported that John Hughes was to sign a six-picture deal with 20th Century Fox; among the projects was a sequel to Home Alone. In May 1991, Culkin was paid $4.5 million plus 5 percent of the film's gross to appear in the sequel, compared to $110,000 for the original. The next morning, the family oversleeps and must rush to the airport. Kevin is with them, but he becomes separated from them while carrying Peter's bag and accidentally boards a flight to New York City.
The production staff created another fake old-timey movie for the sequel. Many of the hotel scenes were actually shot in the Plaza. Macaulay Culkin was paid $4.5 million to star in this movie, the biggest salary ever to an eleven-year-old child actor. The McCallisters are a large family, but they managed to get basically everybody back for the sequel. Of course, they had to make sure the likes of John Heard and Catherine O’Hara were back, but almost every child actor returned as well.
However the final box office gross was lower with $173.6 million in the United States and Canada and a worldwide total of $359 million, compared to $476 million for the first film. The film was released in the United Kingdom on December 11, 1992, and topped the country's box office that weekend. The film is the third-highest-grossing film released in 1992 behind The Bodyguard and Aladdin.
Some viewers were happy with the cut, while others slammed the broadcaster for leaving Mr. Trump on the cutting room floor. Columbus told Insider the production dealt with Trump because, at the time of filming Home Alone 2, he owned the Plaza Hotel. The White House previously did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on the director's comments. Kevin watches and strategically plays scenes from "Angels With Even Filthier Souls" at the Plaza. In "Home Alone," Kevin watches a fictitious black-and-white movie called "Angels With Filthy Souls." It even helps him in one of his tricks to scare off the Wet Bandits. The scene was instead filmed at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.
While the film featured the first film's theme song "Somewhere in My Memory", it also contained its own theme entitled "Christmas Star". Two soundtrack albums of the film were released on November 20, 1992, with one featuring Williams' score and the other featuring contemporary Christmas songs featured in the film. Ten years later, a 2-disc Deluxe Edition of the film score soundtrack was released. Hughes finished writing the film by February 1991, after signing a six-picture deal with 20th Century Fox.
It’s based on the massive F.A.O. Schwarz toy store in Manhattan. You may know it as the toy store that Ton Hanks goes to in “Big.” While it wasn’t a real store, all of the kids in the toy store scene shot there were allowed to keep one toy as a memento. Columbus, having gotten his scenes shot, originally had hoped to cut Trump’s cameo from the movie.
